Knowledge on succession planning for Swiss SMEs
For business owners and their professional and personal partners.
For business owners and their professional and personal partners.
A succession decision is easier when the right questions are asked early. On this page, we bring together expert articles, checklists, and answers drawn from practice on succession models, the process, legal and tax matters, preparing for an initial conversation, and experiences from our portfolio.
Am I ready for succession?
A business transition rarely begins with a fully developed plan. More often, it starts with questions: Where does the company stand? What do I want personally? What should happen to the employees, location, and brand? Our checklist guides you through the most important points in about thirty minutes. It does not replace a trust company or a business valuation, but it helps you prepare for an initial conversation.
- 01
Is succession for my company still an open question, or is a plan beginning to take shape?
- 02
How important are the company’s location, employees, and brand to me compared with the sale price?
- 03
Do I want to remain involved after the transition?
- 04
Do I have key documents such as contracts, financial statements, and ownership records readily available?

Model and differentiation
How does F.G. Pfister differ from a private equity firm?
We invest without a fixed resale horizon. Our capital comes from the F.G. Pfister Stiftung, not from a fund with a defined term. This means we do not have to sell investments after a few years, but can hold and develop companies across generations.
Are you a strategic buyer?
No. We do not integrate acquired companies into a corporate structure. Companies retain their brand, management team, and operational independence. We contribute at the board of directors level and support strategic decisions.
Where does the capital for investments come from?
The capital comes from the assets of the F.G. Pfister Stiftung. We do not work with external investors with fixed fund terms, whose return expectations and investment horizons would limit the duration of an investment.

Reading helps, but it does not replace a conversation. If, after reading this page, you feel that a long-term investment by us could be a good fit for your situation, we would be happy to arrange an initial conversation.
